In an academic article or an essay, writers use connectors and transitions to show the relationship between sentences and paragraphs. Fiction is not academic writing. Authors must use language to build tension, create mood, and move from scene to scene. What kind of language does Kate Chopin use to move through her story? In other words, how does she create flow,make transitions between scenes, and build tension?
