Little Audrey by Ruth White
ReplyDeleteThe main character of my novel is Audrey, the author Ruth White’s older sister. The book is told from her point-of-view when she was 11 years old in 1948.
Audrey is beautiful, intelligent, friendly and brave little girl. She lives with her parents and three sisters in a coal mining camp in Virginia.
There are two challenges in front of her the first, her two mean classmates, Ron Keith and Thurman, who always tell her and her best friend, Virgil, that they got a dare for them. In Jewell Valley, when you get dared to do something, you have to do it. There is no way out of it, because if you do not do it you will be made fun of the rest of your life. Audrey is brave, so she always takes dares. Second, and the biggest challenge in front of her is to overcome her dream of becoming a good teacher as Miss. Stairus, her favorite teacher in her school. She is an intelligent student, but she thinks that she cannot be a teacher because such special people come from cities or other places. And she thinks that she is not special because often times they don’t have enough to eat because their father spends his paycheck on alcohol. It’s not uncommon for him to be gone all weekend on a drinking binge, but still Audrey loves him.
Your book and your writing awaken a brave feeling in me. As I realize a real world is cruel, I have forgotten how important a brave action to get a dream is necessary. Thank you.
DeleteThe Giver by Lois Lowry
ReplyDeleteThe main character of my novel is a twelve-years-old boy called Jonas. The context of this story is a u/dystopian society where everything seems perfect, but this ideal world has been created eradicating feelings and freedom. Jonas is a smart, responsible, brave and honest boy. He lives with his parents and his sister Lily, who is seven years old. Jonas has been designed to be the next "Receiver of Memory", so through this position he will discover the inconsistencies and realities of the world that he believed perfect. Somehow, I could identify with Jonas because as time goes by I'm losing my naivety. As in this story, the real world and the world that I saw when I was a child, are completly different, so the discovering process is often hard.
Charlotte's Web
ReplyDeleteThe main character of this story is a spider called Charlotte's who seems bloodthirsty at the beginning of the story, but later, readers slowly being to learn about the real character of Charlotte. She is very calm, but aware of her surroundings. She has a feeling for other animals too which is why she befriends with Wilbur, a pig who is kept in a barn where Charlotte is. The biggest challenge for Charlotte to overcome is to save Wilbur's life since he is going to be slaughtered by his owner. Although she can't talk, she is quite sure that her plan of saving Wilbur's life will be successful. The only thing she can do is to communicate through her webs, but whether it works or not is what the readers will find out about after reading the story. To some extent, I see myself in Charlotte's position because I am the calmest son my father who doesn't always seem sharp, however, my plan to make my parents proud has actually worked since I earned the scholarship that my father had always dreamed about.
I can't disagree with you Leticia! The world looks a perfect place unless you look at it deeply!

ReplyDeleteMATILDA written by Roald Dahl
ReplyDeleteThe main character is a 5-year-old girl named Matilda. She is a genius. She has already read all of the children’s books in the library and she reads long adult novels by Dickens and Hemingway. She can multiply complicated figures, for example multiplying 14 by 19, in her head like lightning. In addition to these brilliant abilities of her, she is honest, kind and quiet. She is perfect.
However, her parents are bad. They do not appreciate her abilities and do not like her. They think that reading books and multiplying do not benefit them at all. Parents often scold her just because they are in a bad temper. Therefore, Matilda use her head and get back at them. Her parents and teachers, who do not understand her and are mean to her, would be her biggest challenge.
I cannot identify with her because I am not a genius like her and my parents are good to me. I cannot understand how she is feeling when she do some punishment on her parents because I can’t even imagine that I punish my parents, though I support her when I read.
I think you may be more similar to Matilda than you think. Perhaps math is not your strength but really good when writing in English. ;)

ReplyDeleteThe main character of "Life of Pi"is an young Indian boy named after a swimming pool, Piscine Molitor Patel. He seems to be intelligent and curious. He was raised in a hindu family but his beliefs were also influenced by his atheist teacher.
ReplyDeleteHis biggest challenge is to survive in a small boat with a hyena, an orangutang, a zebra and a tiger. During his journey he question his self about life and balance his belief between god and nature. That`s when I identify myself with the character, trying to find answers in science and religion.
I agree with your description but I'm still confused due to your last sentence. However, your thought about life is connected with science or religion but last time i read this novel, I didn't find the main character can't make up his mind. He just tried to survive in his life from the sea.
DeleteA young Indian boy is the main character of “Life of Pi”. He wants to be a Hindu, a Muslim and a Christian. From this fact I could know one thing about him. He knew how to believe god. I thought the only way to believe god is only believe in me. He wanted god respond to him but he isn’t just waiting response as praying to god. He tries and tries to do by himself.
ReplyDeleteHis father operated a zoo but he wanted to open a zoo in Canada so they were going to Canada and in this period, he faced the biggest challenge in his life. In that period, the ship was broken and there are a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra and a tiger on a small boat with him. After soon, he survived only with a tiger. He wanted to live together with a tiger as thinking the hopeless thing is to be alone. This story is about how to live on a small boat. It seems fantasy story; however, if you read this story to the end, you can derive the thought about a life, religions and a human nature from this book.
The main character is a Jewish twelve years old named Carrie from St. Louis Missouri . She is energetic and a sweet heart.
ReplyDeleteHer biggest challenge is that she discovers that her father has cancer. She gets so sad because she is dad little girl and love spending time with her father more than her strict mother. Her parents travel to get the medical help so Carrie and her brother sonny stay home with their housekeeper.Carrie also faces a hard time to fit in with girls in her age.Because she’s taller and looks older than them. She is going through a weird and sensitive age that her personality did not form yet and I identify myself when I was at the same age as her.
Although I didn't like the story in the beginning, you make it more interesting.

ReplyDeleteNique is the main character. He is teenager and he complains about everything. When he say, “The school’s very good about mailing letters to the house.” from this I assume that he made so many troubles in school area, yet he is good in art. As teenager he feels like he can’t stand himself. Also, he is stubborn; in addition, he act like he strongest. Teenager likes to have authority for everything.
ReplyDeleteWow, this story sounds interesting. I wonder why the majority of the stories that I have red is about teenagers.
