ReplyDeleteHuman lives in their society. I think it means to be human that is to follow rules. Rules are another word for restriction and prohibition. Also I believe the statement “Human is the creature who makes prohibition”, which was said by my professor. Sometimes rules are taken root in our mind and behavior, and we have followed our social and cultural rules consciously, or unconsciously.
ReplyDeleteMost people think that human must not kill other people, of which one of the reasons is law. Law is based on social rules. For example, if a man violates the law, the man would be sent prison or get punishment because it is social rules. We know it that from a nation which is in a state of anarchy, if it had not for rules like a law, people can’t keep discipline well. Human needs rules to live.
Another example, a religion prohibits eating some kind of meets and many people who believe the religion follow it, in spite of they can eat them physically. I think religion can’t be completely defined as a rule, but it certainly restricts and prohibits the believers’ action. People have to follow their law and religion consciously.
The word “Rule” reminds us as a law, but it corresponds to religion, also our common thought like a common sense, ethics, and culture. For example, the action which lacks common sense makes surrounding bad mood and it might be blamed. Common sense, ethics, such things which underlie our mind and thought are shaped by society and culture. They are usually not said as rules, but they restrict our action and we follow them probably unconsciously. In this way, rules restrict and unite our action and thought.
We are restricted by many factors which can be another word rules. Rules affect our action and thought, and we follow them consciously and unconsciously. They work as not only restriction and prohibition, but also uniting to people each other. Rules are necessary for people who live in society. Therefore, I believe it means to be human that is to follow rules.
