Maths
I'd like your feedback on today's class with Professor Whiteford. Was it an interesting way to spend class time? Did you like having a different English speaker in class? What, if anything, did you learn during the class? Would you like more experiences like this? In what ways, if any, does such an activity help your English?

What, in your opinion, is Chris running away FROM?

Chris was friendly and happy when he was with people. He made friends and even stayed in touch with Wayne Westerberg after he left Carthage,...
I like math and I always enjoy math class. Also, it was interesting to know that we use different way to learn math. I never thought about that. In addition this experiences help my English when I try to translate Arabic idiom to English. It was hard because I was thinking about the meaning.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you like math. I really want hear the reason someday.
DeleteI was struggling to say Japanese idiom by English. Sometimes your mother tongue cant't express in English, but the process to how to tell foreigners is fun.
I agree with you it was interesting class. Also it's good to have a different experience especially the Arabic idiom.
DeleteMath class was pretty interesting for me. I thought most of people solve math problem same way, but Professor Whiteford noticed me that wrong. Each country has their own style. Those styles are new for me, even so easy math problems. I like to touch the other countries opinion. I'd like to have more experience like today. I think that would be helpful for our English. Sometimes we need some stimulus for refreshing our mind.
ReplyDeleteI thought so, too! I thought that everyone thought in same way because math system is universal. But it was not. Math system is still a truth although we think and understand it differently. It make me to refresh.
DeleteGood writing you two.
ReplyDeleteActually, I love math even though math made me frustrated very often. I learned math in English. But it was totally different. In my university, teachers use English, but they was still Koreans and their first language was Korean, too. Thus I couldn't imagine that Each culture has different expression about same concept. Anyway it was very interesting and gave me a new thinking.
ReplyDeleteAlso listening different accent was good. I hope that there would be more chance to learn math, philosophy, linguistic or playing guitar(everything except English).
You learned math in English?? I think it was too difficult!!
DeleteI think to learn something in English is difficult, and sometime to make a mess.
I don't like math too much, so if I will to do that, I would panic.
I think Professor Whiteford's class was interesting. I didn't know that the counting system is different from each countries. I forgot a country name, but the country has 12 basic numbers. Normally, we have only 10 basic numbers. I was really surprised about that.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to more experiences like this. I think that is good exercise to listening English.
I agree with you...it was a good experience.
DeleteI think math leads our lives in a way or another for sure math is an interesting topic to discuss. It was a good and helpful experience to spend our class time. Professor Whiteford opens my eyes about the cultural differences in terms of math .Having a native speaker in our class helps improving my English language .I would love to have experiences like that in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. Knowing cultural differences give us a wide field of vision. I want to have a chance like today's class.
DeleteI thought it was very interesting to have the Professor Whiteford teaching math in English. It was also fun to compare the different methods that every country has to solve math problems. Speaking of different methods, I double checked about the way we solve division problems in Brazil, and it is really different from the other countries, I`m not crazy yet.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like math but I became curious about math by professor Whiteford. Before class, I knew only one way to solve math questions. I really enjoyed to know a lot of new idea and I want to know more about different styles. I hope we have the opportunity like today someday. I was able to study English with pleasure, so this kind of classes are really nice.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds interesting. Could you let me know the new way to slove math questions?
DeleteProfessor Whiteford made my day! To be honest, I don't like math, but I liked the way he explained things about math. He pointed out some fascinating facts about math that most of us didn't know before. He also reminded me of the time when i was a kid doing my math homework. I think It is always good to have a math teacher like him. He knew exactly how to get us involved in the subject. Moreover, he looked smiley all the time. I really enjoyed having a class with him.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like math even though, my major is an engineering has a lot of it,but if I find a really good teacher like professor Whiteford the math would be my favorite class because he used a sample way to explain the difficult maths. Also, I like his accent because he talked very slowly. I hope we can meet him again.
ReplyDeleteI also liked his method of teaching math. Even though the class wasn`t in my first language, it was easy to understand what he was doing.
DeleteUnfortunately, I was absent yesterday. Although I did not take the class, I always welcome to guest speakers. I think they could teach new things in a new way. I'd like to attend a lecture from guest speaker as many class as possible. I hope I could meet another guest speaker in the class.
ReplyDeletehopefully, different teachers come to our class with different major. That make the students interesting with other major.
