  1. I would say that in my culture, as I live in a very religious country, we are always expected to be subordinated to religion. Is very common for people to question things, but because of the culture we live in, most of the times people expect us to conform with only one idea or one reason for something. Sometimes when we try to question ourselves, society punishes our beliefs just because they do not agree with us, because they usually interpret what their religion says, as the only correct idea. This has caused many people to stay away from religion, and so many others to become radical about their thought to shush the ones who reveal against this cultural expectation.

    1. In short, people in Columbia prioritize culture. My culture is very different from your culture. And, I have a question. Do you respect ancestors and seniors?

    2. This is so interesting to me, because Japan is not religious country in some aspect comaring to other country, I might focus on the good point of being religious but not on bad points.

  2. In my culture, we are expected that we respect ancestors as one of the ethics by Japanese culture (and religions such as Shintoism and Buddhism). Japanese culture is constructed by not only religions like Shintoism and Buddhism but also Confucianism, which teach that ansestors count. We often go to grave for meeting ancestors. This act is from Japanese culture including Shintoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Everyone should respect ancestors, of course seniors, in Japan.

    1. This is a very interesting idea and, in a way, I believe we share this. It is very common for Catholics to go visit their family members who are no longer alive, and even some families have the habit of celebrating a mass every year in honor of them. I believe this is a hard moment, but also a way of always having present in your heart and in your mind the people that left. I hope that with this I gave you an answer for what you asked in my principal comment!

    1. I agree with your idea. In my opinion, Japanese people are very polite because most of people can obey the rules such as traffic light. Also we have some events to respect ancestors.

    2. Saki, I agree with your idea. These days that we had been with you, you have shown this many times. Your culture is very respectful towards everyone, and you always consider the other. This idea is little different for Colombia. We do think respect is important, but because of our culture, we are used to be interrupted and be very loud. This is an aspect that other cultures do not like a lot, because they are not used to it. This is a very interesting thing to know, because we get to understand each of you better.

In the few moments that I have shared with the Japanese, I have seen how everyone respect each other between you and respect other people. I think that respect is basic and necessary in all societies and cultures.

  4. In my culture, I think we always behave so as not to hurt others. In other word, it is thought that modesty is one of a virtue of Japan. Japanese don't like to express themselves without considering others' status and circumstances.

  5. In japan, the most important and meaningful expectation is to follow the action of the peer. which means that if the other people do, we are expected to same thing. This trend will be significant on the internet, especially in social media. When someone do bad thing in Japan, they are likely to criticised in Internet. Critic is so important to make things right. However, it sometimes too much to do so.

  6. I think that the most important and meaningful expectation of Colombians is that we, Colombians, all should follow the word of God, and fulfill it word for word, that includes going to Mass every Sunday, spending the holidays as they should, among others. Also another thing that is expected from our culture, is that we are very busy, happy and that we celebrate each celebrity in a very happy way.

    1. I understand God is very important in your country. In my country, we recognize Gods on New Year's Day because almost all people go to shrine and pray. And I couldn't understand "the word of God". Is this meaning "Bible"?

    2. I also went to Christian school when I was in high school and went to church on Sunday. Thus that culture is very easy for me to accept.

Since I live in a country where religion is one of the most important things in our culture, I think that the society expects from me and all of the people who live in Colombia to behave in order with the 10 commandments God left us, because they show how we could have a perfect coexistence and a perfect society if all of the people who live there follow them. Probably also people expects that everyone acts in order to not hurting anyone, all of us are equals and everyone should be respected in the same way.
