What are the characteristics of a true hero? Is everyone capable of being heroic or does it take qualities possessed by only a few? Post your answer and REPLY to at least two classmates.
I believe that a true hero should have special characteristics in own her or his life; such as, to call someone heroic should have qualities possessed like blodness such a good example the clambiers who were climbing to reach Mount Everest are true hero.
They might be heroes for some people but for me they are not. I think of a Hero when I imagine a person with noble qualities. In my opinion these people are doing this because they wanted to and they can afford this, but a true hero for me is the person that save the same money to help other people in a selflessly way.
I agree with Alejandro. In my honest opinion those people trying to climb high mountains are athletes and they are practicing an extreme sport for their own glory in most cases. Others persons trying to climb a Montain without being athletes are just looking for adrenaline and adventure.

Why does being bold make somebody a hero? If I go camping in the woods at night, does that make me a hero? Does risking my life for my own satisfaction make me a hero?
The first question is really funny. I know that you are being ironic. As I said in my last comment that for me heroes are people that help other people by taking risks an they do it in a selflessly way, not risking their own life for any apparent reason.
I think that everyone could be a hero if they want. In some ways we could be hero´s or maybe we have been involved in some situations that other people can considered us like hero´s. We should not associate the heroism with people that have special powers, to do something heroic for me is not only save people when they are in a risky situation, it could be help a kid to afford his cancer treatment, or to give shelter to a lonely dog. Those people or animals see you as their personal hero. Of course we have the hero´s with superpowers but for me that´s only science fiction not reality.
I could agree with you, given the examples you gave. However, what are the qualitites of the people you offer as examples? I would like a definition of heroes, not just examples of heroes.
I think that the best definition of heroes for me would be a person who is admired by a crowd because of his bravery and his courage. Also it could be a person with special abilities.

I like your ideas when you said is not necessary to be hero, you have to be hlep people when they are in a risky situation.You can be hero by charity porviding for poor people or a lonely animal.
Everyone can do heroic actions but it is the desire to do those kind of actions. That makes a person a hero. If someone does something good a couple of times this don't necessarily which mean that they are a hero. A hero has to want to do good things always.
A Hero is someone who has the willing to sacrifice their own needs for the benefit of others. In my opinion the idea of a Hero is directly related to the idea of personal sacrifice and love for their peers. These characteristics correspond to a universal motivations and the desire to be understood and loved for what he does and not for what he has.

I think the most important characteristics that a good hero should have it are visionary, because without the vision he or she can't improve her or his country, also resourceful because he or she can't deal with any problems that maybe threaten his or her country.
Hm...In korea we don't often use the word 'hero'. It was very interesting that I can often find or be heared 'hero' at the US media. In my country we use 'hero' when someone save or promulgate homeland.
I don' think that just anyone can be a hero because a hero is someone who has power for change things. A person can only have that kind of power if they are willing to sacrifice their life in order to help others. A hero should be someone who is not afraid to face the challenges people face everyday.
