  1. I think it depends. I mean, if the teacher is good enough, students still can learn a lot from this teacher even though he is not a native speaker of English.
In my view, learning English as a Second Language from a teacher who is not a native speaker of English has disadvantages, as well as advantages.
It is obvious that non-native speakers usually have no veritable pronunciation and students taught by them usually cannot speak very well.
I am a Chinese students, and I know that there are few opportunities to speak and English teacher also speak Chinese most of time in our class. However, a lot of English teacher teach the English grammar very well. And some teachers who are the native speakers I met cannot help me figure the grammar questions out sometimes.

  2. I believe study is responsible from the students and teachers. Whatever the teachers are native speaker or not, if they are good, students are hard-working, people still can learn English form a teacher who is not a native speaker of English.
As for myself, I maintain that the most important part of learning English are speaking. A lot of teachers use English as second language, and the most of them have accent. Just few of them who speak English is as perfect as native speaker. Grammar is easy to learn, but it is hard to talk like a native speaker. In short, it is possible to learn English for teachers who is not the native speaker of English.

  4. That is possible. Most of people think that is impossible might say that non-native speaker can't pronounce perfectly like native speaker does and students also will not able to pronounce. However, as Professor, Oda says even if people have peculiar accent and pronunciation, they don't need fix it to be like native speaker. Because the most important thing is understanding each other. On the other hands, even thought people have different accent and pronunciation, if other people understand what they say, there is no problem. In addition, if it doesn't make sense because of different accent and pronunciation, people can explain words and make negotiation with other people by doing that. Also, if people speak like native speaker misstate words, other people understand wrong meaning from actual meaning they want to say.
Thus, I think that is possible and there is no disadvantage.

    2. Pronunciation is something that is better to develop in an environment where people speak the language. It is not a big deal while you are learning a second language.

    3. However, I think we need improve our pronuncation and skip the strange sounds, it can help us more easily to understand each other isn't it?

  5. I think it is possible. If the student wants to learn English, they can learn it from anyway. Even if the teacher is not a native speaker, You can learn grammar and vocabulary words form a teacher who is not a native English speaker. Maybe the pronunciation is not that good, but students still can learn a lot for the teacher. If the student work hard and the teacher is helpful, it is possible to learn English from a teacher who is not a native English speaker.

    1. I agree with you, Dan. I've always had professors who were not native speakers; grammar was easier to understand because they usually spend more time explaining those issues.

  6. In Spain, we usually have professors who are Spanish and graduated in English Philology. Of course, pronunciation is not the best example in those who are not native speakers, but obviously, accent is not easy to get if you have not been living for a while in a country where English is the official language. Oral skills are not take in account in my country. In order to succeed in the acquisition of knowledge in a second language they believe that grammar and vocabulary are the base of that development. In my personal opinion, I think to get a better level in English, schools should have a native speaker to develop listening and speaking, and non-native speaker for literacy.

  7. Learning a new language is not easy . I think that learning does not depend on the fact that the teacher is a native speaker or not . It is possible to learn English with a teacher who is not a native speaker . The most important is that you can understand what he is going to teach you and you can then apply . You could for example have a native speaker as a friend and learn the pronunciation of words. Learning with a non-native speaker as a teacher has disadvantages as well as advantages. But it is still better to learn with a teacher who is a native speaker.

Even though, people learn English from a teacher who is not a native speaker may have problem on pronunciation, but it's can't block off friendship people who come from different country.

  9. Never the issue between learning second language from a teacher who is not a native speaker of English or learning second language from a teacher who is a native speaker can attract people's eyes. For my opinion, I think we need refuse teacher who is not a native speaker. Not only they have poor pronunciation, but also they totally unfamiliar with the United States culture. Now day we need focus on the development in an all-around way for student, same as education and language program. The teacher who is a native speaker can give us correct pronunciation in first time. Furthermore, we train under the native culture.

  10. In my opinion, it is absolutely possible to learn English as a second language from a teacher who is not English native speaker. The idea have many advantages. When you learn second language from teacher who should know that to get second language is so hard. Otherwise it wouldn't consist of language education well. If the teacher who understand how difficult the language or weak point so it's easy for students to learn English from not English native speaker. In my Japanese university, I had taken a English class which is taught from non English native speaker. The program made my English skill up, I think. Nowadays a lot of people learn English now in the world, it means these are a lot of kinds English there. It supposed to one of reasons of English is global language. I hope the person who teach English is non English native speaker increase in the future.
