Inclusion
What would you be willing to do if you saw someone being mistreated on campus because of their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation? Have you ever interceded in a situation in which one person was being bullied or harassed by another? RESPOND to the questions and then REPLY to two of your classmates.

Although the society is opener than before to accept different kinds of people, there are actually a lot of people can not accept in their deep mind. The most times I experienced this kind of thing is in school. Some strong students always bully weak students. When I was in junior high school, there was a fat boy in my class who was bullied by other bad boys in my class. They spit on him and put their feet on his face. I was very sad about that. Many classmates including me was trying to stop it for many times, but it still happened. In fact, this fat boy also had many disadvantages, and teachers are all didn’t like him. So they did nothing about him. At this time, I was helpless, I wasn’t strong enough to help him. Also, I saw many videos about school violence in China and it still happening. However, the society are paying attention to it, and Internet gives us a good place to reveal this kind of things. I think it is a good change and it is effective. I hope the world can discriminate less.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea, and I think that you and your classmates were brave to help the boy. As you said that social media can disclose the problem of bullying, but I also think there is a possibility that the Internet can be related to cyber-bullying.
DeleteIn my home country these kind of children behavior always occurs and it is always considered as a part of their childhood peaceful and innocent jokes, but what surprised me in your story is the teachers reaction toward this poor guy. Here, I think that these kind of teachers and instructors should be behaved of punished due to their irresponsibility instead of being free to continue their work. A teacher, and especially a teacher in this level should be more aware to protect and support his pupils.
DeleteFor me, it depends on situation. If I saw these things with my friends, we will go try to stop this together and shoot video. Or, if I saw by myself, I will call police, and shoot video. People have sense of justice is good, but should keep own safe is first. I am a lucky, this kind of thing never happen in my life.

DeleteI agree with your idea. Because If I were alone when I see such a situation, I would feel afraid and could not do something directly. That's why your ideas, shooting a video or calling police are good way, I thought.
DeleteI disagree with you Haoqing of not trying to help those who you don;t know. Since the situation is clear and not that risky, I believe that we should always interfere to support the poor victim. In such condition just believe that you are the victim and people around can help and they don't like, here just believe how your reaction would be.

DeleteIf I saw someone being mistreated on campus because these reasons, I will try my best to stop it at the first time. If I cannot stop it, I will call police and tell teacher this situation. Because the first thing is make sure victim's safe. Another thing is that I am willing to help and comfort this victim with teachers and friends. I have read a lot news about similar questions. The victim became closed and did not want to get along with people because of being mistreated.There is no denying that the mental health is important question. I am also will to make some posters about these questions on campus with teacher and friends.

DeleteI agree with you. The victims' mental health are important, and we should decrease secondary damage which means police needs asking victims question about situation, victims mind should be flashed back to terrible time.
DeleteI have never saw the situatoin, but I would tell someone whose authority is impactful the fact that someone is mistreated if I saw that. Because what I can do to treat it is limited, for example, the people may not pay attention to my words even when I speak up something. However, if I do nothing for the poor people, it means that I through them away undirectly. Actually, one teacher told me that those who do nothing for the weak people are equal to those who mistreat the weak.

DeleteI agree with you. If we saw something about mistreated, we should told someone who has authority to stop these thing. We have to do something, if we did, I believe this kind of thing will disappear in future.
DeleteI have never seen bullying caused by race and religion because Japan is island country, so almost all people have same race and religion. Even though I watched a video which about discrimination in my class, I could not believe that there is such bullying. After I came to the US; however, I knew that many posters written about discrimination against black people put on the walls. If I interceded in such situation, I would try to listen to both white and black sides. What is more, I think that it is a good idea to give a lecture as SMC did.
ReplyDeleteHi, Sumika. I agree with you. There is actually less discrimination in Asian country. I heard before that you mentioned that SMC did about the discrimination in campus. They had a emergency meeting on the church and teach students not to discriminate others. I think it is a good education.

ReplyDeleteI have never been threatened of such bad behaviors of others, but two years ago I witnessed a Pakastani girl who mistreated by two students in a school cafeteria. At first when we saw the guys shouting on her, me and my international colleagues thought that it might a be sexual harassment but when talked to her she said that they tried to take of her Hijab. Fortunately we were able to calm the situation but we could not help her recap her feelings and she was sad along that week. Despite all the laws to fight these kind of misbehavior, I believe that schools and colleges should insert a class of BEHAVIOR to be mandatory for all the students in order to plant the noble human ethics in their minds since ignorance is only source of such bad habits.
ReplyDeleteI met someone was mistreated by people in the campus because their race, religion gender, or sexual orientation, I will be angry with this guy which he bullied his students and try my best to stand after him. In my experience, I met the violence of school, but the reason is different with others I have talked . There is a girl just performing something strange, but people don't like her attitude and bully her. I think that’s a worst discrimination than others because someone was not allowed to have different point of view. In conclusion, I hope schools’ teachers need to open the morality class and teach students how to respect for each other, and how to get along well with classmates. So finally, the students can own the excellent life of school.
